BRAVE SIS PROJECT: LEARNING & LIFESTYLE FOR BIPOC WOMEN & THEIR FRIENDS

#SistoryLessons and Foremother Wisdom We Need Today

Brave Sis Project, founded in 2019, began as a response to the lack of inclusive and meaningful organizational tools for women of color. What started as the world's first journal and day planner centering the untold stories of BIPOC women has evolved into a vibrant, Black-woman-owned platform that educates, celebrates, and inspires through storytelling and shared history.

Anchored deeply in the wisdom and courage of foremothers, Brave Sis uplifts the stories of Black, Brown, Asian, and Indigenous women who have shaped history—even as they too often remain overlooked. Our flagship Journey-Journal, created during a time of cultural upheaval, quickly found its way into the hands and hearts of thousands of community members in eight countries, connecting users with inspiration, personal growth, and the powerful idea of inclusion that moves “from Me to We to All.”

After four editions of the printed "Journey Journal," we sunsetted the production to focus on digital content, customized workshops and facilitation, strategic advisory services, and cohort-based community experiences—all rooted in culturally responsive storytelling.

In year six, we now invite individuals of all backgrounds to explore pathways to authentic, sustainable inclusion, leadership, and equity. These offerings equip BIPOC women with visibility and pride while inviting allies—particularly socially engaged white women—into lifelong, accountable practice. Our mission is to challenge dominant narratives, foster deeper self-connection, and encourage bonds of sisterhood that reach across cultures, lived experiences, and generations.

Rozella Kennedy’s 2024 Nautilus Award-winning book, Our Brave Foremothers: Celebrating 100 Black, Brown, Asian, and Indigenous Women Who Changed the Course of History (Workman/Hachette), celebrates 100 Black, Brown, Asian, and Indigenous women—both renowned and overlooked—who shaped U.S. history through richly detailed profiles and vibrant illustrations by Joelle Avelino. Each entry not only educates with compelling stories and artwork but also invites personal reflection on the courage and legacy of these women. This accessible and moving volume offers readers not only a vivid visual and educational experience but a call to embody the strengths of devotion, fearlessness, and resilience they represent. The stories of the Foremothers, along with hundreds of others who were not included in the book (and now a new book in progress focusing on Global Foremothers) infuses Brave Sis Project’s work with an engaging storytelling/history-as-inspiration lens that other players in the leadership development and diversity/inclusion sector do not enjoy.

Beyond being a trusted resource, a facilitation structure, or an educational platform, Brave Sis Project is a catalyst that champions the celebration of BIPOC women’s history and lived experiences, offering space and tools for reflection, pride, advocacy, solidarity and real transformation. Whether experiencing our work as an individual or as part of a group, every Brave Sis (this includes Brave People across the gender continuum!) is welcomed into a circle of learning and joy—a journey toward a fairer and more harmonious world.
